Needle: size 9, dp. (circ’s would work, too)
Yarn: 2 skeins Lamb’s Pride Bulky, Mustard Yellow
Other accessories: blunt tapestry needle or crochet hook for hiding tails.
& some poly-fiber-fill for shaping.
Gauge: 11 st. = 3", 11 rows = 2"
Size: adult
CO 70 st. and divide onto your dp needles.
Rows 1-30: knit
Row 31 - begin decrease: *k12, ssk* repeat to end.
Rows 32-36: knit
Row 37: *k11, ssk* repeat to end.
Rows 38-42: knit
Row 43: *k10, ssk* repeat to end
Rows 44-48: knit
Continue decreasing in this manner, knitting one less stitch each decrease row (row 49: *k9, ssk.* row 55: *k8, ssk* etc.) and knitting five rows in between decreases, until you have 12 sts on your needles. (90 rows total)
Break yarn and pull through remaining sts.
Stuff cap with suitable amount of poly-fiber fill to get a correct fit and point.
For child’s size hat, try casting on only fifty st. (or any number divisible by 5) and working only 15-20 rows before starting the decrease.
To figure out what decrease to start at, divide your cast on number by five and subtract two.
Example: if you wanted a much smaller hat, say 40 st. you would start the decrease with *k6, ssk* whereas if you wanted a much bigger hat, say 100 st, you would start the decrease with *k18, ssk*
I’ve also wanted to knit another Oblio hat and try felting it!
Please post pictures of finished projects so that I can see how this pattern is working for other people and let me know how it comes out if you felt one, too!
Thanks, and Enjoy!
*and keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming pattern of Oblio's dog Arrow!
(might not actually happen until the end of the summer...? who knows)
